Halifax Regional Arts (HRA) is part of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE).
HRA is funded through a tax called supplementary funding which all citizens in the Halifax Regional Municipality pay yearly. This money goes towards funding enhanced Fine Arts programming across HRCE. We offer extra-curricular programs in...
MUSIC
HRA offers lots of extra curricular opportunities in Music. Bands, strings, orchestras, choirs, guitar, ukulele and drumming, as well as opportunities to see special guests, industry professionals and performances in and out of school are just some of the musical experiences we offer to students. There are also music clinicians who go to classes to work with students and teachers.
DRAMA & DANCE
Along with Drama and Dance Fine Arts Specialists who go to classrooms to enhance class experiences, HRA offers performance opportunities like improv troupes, modern dance and hip hop workshops, regional musicals and Shakespeare shows, and the chance to see and take part in many other shows and performances with professional performers.
VISUAL ARTS
Did you know that there are three pottery and glass labs in HRCE? Teachers can book your class during school time to go create ceramics or glasswork and bussing to get there is free! Workshops are also available in the evenings for those that would like to spend more in-depth time creating. Just like for Drama and Dance, HRA has Drama Fine Arts Specialists that can come to your class to give you the opportunity to create with many different kinds of materials. From felting, painting, pastels, metal embossing, stone carving and anything in-between, our specialists guide you through many creative experiences. All the materials you use are free as well.
Our programs are currently offered before school, at lunchtime, during the school day, after school, and evenings.
